Project Profile: House of Providence

Commercial Roof Installation at House of Providence: A Key Part of a Life-Changing Renovation

At Performance Roofing and Siding, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality roofing solutions, but sometimes a project comes along that carries even more meaning. Our recent work on the House of Providence (HOP) facility in Pontiac, Michigan, is one of those projects. While the main focus was on the commercial roof installation, the work we did was part of a much larger renovation effort aimed at transforming the building into a safe, welcoming space for children and families in Michigan’s foster care system. Here’s a look at the roof installation and how we got it done.

A New Roof for a New Mission

The building in Pontiac, purchased by House of Providence, needed extensive renovation to accommodate the organization’s expanding mission to support Michigan’s foster care system. One of the first and most crucial steps was replacing the old, worn-out roof. The team at HOP reached out to General Manager Roger Sovis, a long-time friend of the project lead, Jason Dunn, to help with the roofing needs.

We were tasked with installing a new commercial roof that would stand the test of time, and after careful consideration, we decided on a Duro-Last PVC roofing system. Known for its durability, energy efficiency, and long warranty, Duro-Last was the perfect choice to provide decades of protection for the building.

Fast, Efficient, and Done Right

Despite the complexity of the full building renovation, we were able to complete the main roof installation in just three days. The project included removing the old roof and installing the Duro-Last system, which was no small task. Once the primary work was done, we spent an additional day finishing up smaller areas and addressing any final punch list items. It was crucial to stay on schedule to allow other contractors to continue their work without delays.

As with many commercial roof installations, permits were required. In this case, we worked with the City of Pontiac to secure the necessary roofing permit before beginning work, ensuring that we met all local regulations.

Overcoming Challenges

One of the more unique challenges we faced was ensuring the new roof complied with the local preservation requirements. The building had historical features, including parapet walls, which required special attention. Our team worked closely with Jason and local officials to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the building while ensuring the roof met the manufacturer’s warranty requirements.

By carefully planning the installation and coordinating with the overall renovation work, we were able to deliver a roof that was both functional and in keeping with the building’s historical charm.

A Lasting Impact

When all was said and done, the new Duro-Last PVC roof was successfully installed, meeting all specifications and regulations. Not only did we complete the project on time, but we also provided a discounted price and contributed an additional donation to the project, supporting HOP’s ongoing mission.

With this new roof, the House of Providence building is now set to serve as a safe, secure, and long-lasting space for a variety of services that will help children and families in Michigan’s foster care system find healing and hope.

At Performance Roofing and Siding, we’re proud to have been part of this important project. It’s not just about installing roofs; it’s about providing the foundation for places where lives can be changed. We were thrilled to contribute our expertise, time, and resources to ensure that this space will be a place of safety, healing, and opportunity for years to come.
